Kuwait is Continuing Support for UNRWA


(MENAFN- QNA) The State of Kuwait has continued supporting the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) and has increased its annual contributions to the international agency to USD two million since 2011, a Kuwaiti envoy at the UN affirms.
Kuwait has increased its allotments to UNRWA due to the Gulf country's advocacy of the just Palestinian cause and belief in significance of the agency's works, said Abdulaziz Saud Al-Jarallah, the deputy permanent delegate to the UN, while addressing a UN committee tasked with political and colonial affairs, according to (KUNA).
Moreover, the Gulf State appreciates UNRWA's efforts, namely providing basic needs for the Palestinian refugees, he said.
The Kuwaiti diplomat called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities with respect of repercussion of the July Israeli aggression on Gaza, where more than 2,000 people died and 118 UNRWA's installations were hit by the Israeli forces.
The world community must take rapid and decisive action to coerce Israel abide by the relevant international resolutions, namely resolution 1860 (2009) that calls for lifting the flagrant eight-year-old Israeli blockade on Gaza, said Al-Jarallah.
Moreover, he added, Kuwait affirms the Palestinian refugees' right to return home, according to article 11 of the UN General Assembly's resolution 194. Furthermore, it renews its solidarity with the Palestinian people for sake of attaining their rights, as stipulated by the UN Security Council's resolutions 242 and 338.
Kuwait has contributed with up to USD 130 million to UNRWA since its establishment in 1949.
