UAE urges UNSC to act against Israeli aggressions on Jerusalem

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al-Nahyyan on Wednesday expressed grave concern over that the repressive and provocative practices of Israel in Jerusalem, particularly the desecration of the sanctity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, fearing that such acts could trigger a third Palestinian intifada (uprising).

"It is high time to stop the Israeli violence in Jerusalem and we should all work together and use all means towards that end," Sheikh Abdullah told ambassadors of the UN Security Council (UNSC) member states.

The meeting was attended by the ambassadors of China, France, US, UK, Russia, Argentina, Australia, Luxembourg, Chile, Jordan, Nigeria, Korea, Angola, Malaysia, Venezuela, New Zealand and Spain, according to UAE news agency (WAM).

"It is very important to meet today, so that I may convey to your excellences our deep concern at the recent developments regarding Israel's desecration of the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque," he said.

He stressed that the UAE is part of the global alliance against terrorism and violence in the world, but noted that Israel's actions in killing people and evicting them "is making our mission even more difficult in creating a safe region." Sheikh Abdullah called on the US and the rest of the international community to ratchet up pressure on Israel to cease the violence and killing in Jerusalem.

"We understand that Israel is using the memory of the Holocaust as a trump card against Europe and the US, but this does not justify, under any circumstances, what Israel is doing in Jerusalem," he stressed.

"Peace in the Middle East will never be achieved without the two-state solution and Israel's implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions regarding the occupied territories and Jerusalem," he made clear.
