Qatar- Rota Gala Dinner on Nov 15

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) A stunning black and gold necklace donated by Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie and a Mini Paceman car exclusively designed by world renowned artist Damien Hirst are among the pieces that will go under the hammer at the upcoming fifth Reach Out To Asia (Rota) Gala Dinner.

With the theme "Plant a Book, Harvest a Future," the charity event happening on November 15 will be the first of its kind event that will be held at the castle of Sheikh Ali bin Abdulla Al Thani in Al Rayyan. Having been the first library in Qatar, the castle reflects the importance of education which is the main thrust of Rota.

Announcing the details of the highly anticipated bi-annual Rota event; Rota Board Member, Sheikha Dr Aisha bint Faleh Al Thani, said proceeds from the auction which will be conducted by world famous auction house Sotheby's will support Rota's educational development projects in several countries.

"The projects help build a brighter future for communities plagued by war, political conflict, persecution and discrimination. They provide a better tomorrow, full of opportunity, for children and young people in Asia and the Middle East," Sheikha Aisha told a press conference yesterday.

In particular this year's charity auction will support Rota's educational projects in Palestine, Tunisia, Nepal, Pakistan and for Syrian refugees in Lebanon.

Citing an example of the priority initiatives, Rota Executive Director, Essa Al Mannai, said the project for the Syrian refugees in Lebanon would consist of capacity building for teachers as well as a program for students with sports elements to hone the physical and mental faculties of the children which were most hit by the crisis.

Other items that will be auctioned at the event include an Arabian horse 'Nujood Al Shaqab', an Hermes ladies side saddle, a safari trip for two to South Africa and a motorcycle signed by world champion Grand Prix motorcycle road racer Giacomo Agostini. The winning bidder's name will be listed as the sponsor of each of the flagship projects.

There will also be a silent auction which will feature a unique collection of artworks and gold ornaments from the Museum of Islamic Art.

An impressive line-up of Arab celebrities is set to dazzle the gala dinner including Tunisian singer Latifa, UN Goodwill Ambassador and artist Hussain Al Jasmi, renowned Yemeni artist Ahmed Fathi, Bahraini poet and media figure Parween Habib and entertainer and philanthropist Lojain Omran.

This year's gala dinner has been widely received, said Sheikha Aisha, with all special front row seats, each costing $60,000, already sold out.

Also present at the press conference held at the Msheireb Enrichment Centre yesterday were Hamad Al Baker, Public Relations Manager at Qatar Petroleum (QP) and Sarah Al Dorani, Acting Global Communication Manager at Qatar Petroleum International (QPI).

QPI is the official sponsor of the event while QP is the strategic sponsor.
