05 November 2014: The Vauxhall Astra remains one of the most popular family hatchbacks amongst British drivers second only to the Ford Focus in terms of sales. And new images and information acquired by Auto Express reveal that the next-generation model is well on the way to hitting the market.
The new Astra could be the sportiest-looking iteration yet with a beefed-up front grill and slimmed-down headlights giving it an aggressive stance. It is also said to be lighter than the current model which should not only improve performance but also allow it to be more fuel-efficient in its new guise.
Those looking for the used cars Hertfordshire has to offer will encounter plenty of quality second-hand Astras. And once this fresh model goes on sale in the second half of 2015 it will soon become a firm favourite on the used market in the UK.
Vauxhall is following in the footsteps of Ford by fitting a 1.0 litre petrol engine with a turbocharger to give the new Astra a decent amount of performance without having to sacrifice efficiency. Company spokesperson Tim Tozer announced that a next-generation VXR is also on the cards with observers speculating that it may offer more than 300bhp under the bonnet if it improves upon the current hot hatch.
Revised styling and new engines will help to boost the Astra’s appeal while Vauxhall is also working to ensure that the interior trim and features are a little more refined. It should be about 12 months until it is apparent whether this hard work has paid off in full.
