Sudan, Qatar in talks for gas imports

(MENAFN) Sudan announced that they are currently having discussions with Qatar, the world's top natural gas exporter, over natural gas imports and that they hope that Qatar will begin delivering shipments as early as next year, which Sudan is expected to use in generating power, Gulf Business reported.

Sudan's economy has been struggling since separation of the oil-rich third of the country in 2011, which resulted in taking most of the country's petroleum output and in inflation in the currently reaching to around 40 percent.

"On this visit, we discussed the import of gas from Qatar to be used in the production of electricity in Sudan, and in the coming year we will see the arrival of Qatari gas to Sudan," Sudan's Ministry of Energy said.
