Qatar, China trade volume hits USD11.5b in 5 years


(MENAFN) The Qatari Ministry of Economy and Trade reported that the volume of trade between Qatar and China during the period from 2008 to 2013 rose by 345 percent to reach USD11.5 billion in the past year, The Peninsula Qatar reported.

The ministry said that the economic relationship between Qatar and China is strong, and that these ties are the reason behind Chinese companies' desire to enter the Qatari market, with13 companies fully owned by China currently operating in Qatar, in addition to the 181 joint venture companies with Qatari partners and a Chinese capital which reached up to 49 percent.

The Ministry said that Qatar is very pleased with the current role of Chinese companies in boosting the development in the country, as well as their support to Qatar as it prepares to enter into large-scale projects in various areas, particularly as the country prepares for the FIFA World Cup in 2022.

The Ministry also said that Qatar is the main source of liquefied natural gas to China, with its exports of natural gas to China, which are estimated to have fulfilled 60 percent of the country's needs in 2012, with the total value of the Qatari gas and oil, which had been exported to China reaching USD5.6 billion.
