Qatar- Master of equine art opens solo expo with 35 works at Katara

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Iraqi-Canadian artist Al Al Mimar, one of the masters of equine art, is displaying 35 of his works at a solo exhibition which opened at Katara Building 13 on Monday.

'Neigh in the Time of Silence' runs until November 24, featuring unique works by the world renowned painter of Arabian horses.

The expo, organised in collaboration with Qatar Fine Arts Society (QFAS), was opened by Katara General Manager, Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, Qatar Fine Arts Society Chairman, Yusuf Al Sada, and Al Mimar in the presence of prominent artists.

Dr Al Sulaiti said Katara has always been keen to collaborate with associations and centres, including QFAS, in Cultural Village to enrich the art scene and support artists whether Qataris or others.

Stressing the significance of the arts as a mirror that reflects how different communities live and develop, he said, "It is paramount to work in collaboration with QFAS to reflect this aspect through exhibitions of Qatari artists and expatriates from various nationalities.

"This would be a significant addition to efforts to bring other cultures together.

"We are always keen to host professional foreign artists whom we select carefully, to provide Qatari artists with the opportunity to know others' works, art experiences and innovations. This time we are hosting Al Mimar who became famous for his skills in painting horses," Al Sada said, praising the originality, honesty and clarity in Al Mimar's works and his devotion to art.

Al Mimar's interest in painting Arabian horses started when he was a student. He was inspired by his mentor Fa'ik Hassan, a pioneering Iraqi artist.

In creating his works, Al Mimar goes beyond the aesthetic appeal of the Arabian horse, shedding light on what it has been associated with such as authenticity and nobility. He said he fashions art on nobility and knighthood at a time when the values of knighthood are lost.

Born in Baghdad in 1965, Al Mimar graduated from Institute of Fine Arts in 1985 and College of Fine Arts in Baghdad in 1991. He has been recognised internationally and has featured in exhibitions around the world.
