Qatar- Emir holds talks with Chinese Premier


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held talks with Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang at People's Palace.

Talks dealt with means of enhancing cooperation in the context of strategic relations. The Emir's delegation and Chinese officials were present.

The Emir also met the Chairman of the Standing Committee of National People's Congress, Wu Jingjing, at People's Palace and discussed relations and topics of mutual interest.

The Emir held separate meetings with the President of China Islamic Association, Imam Hilaluddin Chen Guangyuan, and the Chairman of Chinese-Arab Friendship Association, Arken Imirbaki, at his residence and reviewed issues of mutual interest.

The Emir met at his residence Qataris studying on scholarships in China.

The Emir praised their efforts to complete their studies to serve their community and country.

The Emir urged them to make the most of every opportunity of learning and knowledge and cultural exchange offered by the scholarships, build relationships and acquire expertise.

The students thanked the Emir and said the meeting would motivate them to continue their studies and redouble their educational attainment and knowledge.

The Emir left for South Korea, wrapping up a two-day state visit to China. The Emir and his delegation were seen off at Beijing International Airport by the Representative of the Chinese Government and Assistant Foreign Minister Qian Hongshan, Qatari Ambassador Sultan bin Salmeen Al Mansouri and Qatari embassy Staff.

The Emir sent cables to President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Keqiang, thanking them for the warm hospitality and reception accorded to him and his delegation.

In Seoul, the Emir and his delegation were welcomed at Seoul Military Airport by the First Vice-Foreign Minister, Cho Tae-yong, top officials, Qatari Ambassador Mohamed Abdullah Al Dehaimi, South Korean Ambassador Chung Keejong, Arab ambassadors and Qatari embassy staff.

In a statement, the Emir said, "Upon arrival to the city of Seoul at the beginning of a state visit to the Republic of Korea, it gives me pleasure to extend to President Park Geun-hye, Prime Minister Jung Hong-won, their government and their honourable people my sincere greetings and greetings of the Qatari people, together with the best wishes of continuous progress and prosperity to all of them and their friendly country.

"I would also like to express satisfaction over the development and growth in the excellent relations of friendship and cooperation between our countries, thanks to our common keenness to continue to enhance and strengthen these ties in various fields.

"I am looking forward to meeting the President and the Prime Minister to discuss with them issues of mutual concern and ways of expanding cooperation for the benefit of our two peoples."
