Doha Goals '14 kicks off with Kuwait participation


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Doha GOALS Forum 2014 kicked off with Kuwaiti participation on Monday, to discuss ways of enabling sport to become a tool for social change, advancement and economic progress.

The Kuwaiti delegation includes Board Chairman and Director General of Public Authority for Youth and Sport (PAYS) Sheikh Ahmad Mansour Al-Sabah and Board Member Rashed Mutlaq Al-Mutairi, while Dr. Saqer Al-Mulla representing Ministry of Youth.

During the opening ceremony, Qatari Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Thani delivered a speech expressing utmost pleasure for Aspire Academy team's recent achievement of winning Asia Football Cup (AFC) U-19.

"The Academy is now hosting this diverse crowd of global leaders and decision-makers who believe in sports as a tool to achieve social progress and, economic development," Sheikh Abdullah added.

"Over a short period of time, the Doha GOALS Foundation succeeded in becoming a global organization, and this makes us proud of our strategic national vision, which sport is one of its pillars," the Prime Minister said.

Sheikh Abdullah pointed out to investment undertaken by Qatar in all that can ensure a suitable environment for fair competitions, safe and healthy living and unique hospitality.

The Prime Minister also mentioned that remarkable participation by leaders in this forum reflected the importance attached by countries of the world to initiatives put forward by sport and to successful stories by sport legends, hoping that Qatar succeeds in choosing sport as a tool for the convergence of the views of political opponents and racial-ethnic adversaries.

The opening ceremony was attended by President of Gabon Ali Bongo Ondimba, Sheikhs and Ministers, and members of diplomatic corps accredited to Qatar and guests.
