(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The third edition of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open tennis tournament for national teams got under way at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex yesterday.

More than 70 players will compete in the week-long event.

This tournament is one of the most prominent recent

events on the Qatar Tennis Federation's agenda to develop Qatari players. It is also an embodiment of the strong partnership between the federation and ExxonMobil.

"At ExxonMobil, we believe sports can be an important means of teaching our youth about the benefits of healthy lifestyles," said Abdullatif Al Naemi, National Development Manager for ExxonMobil Qatar Inc. "We are pleased to once again support the Qatar Tennis Federation in promoting this tournament, which cultivates tennis champions from Qatar while encouraging healthy and active lifestyles in the process."

Tarek Zeinal, Deputy General Secretary at the Qatar Tennis Federation, praised the continuous support provided by ExxonMobil to tennis national teams and to tennis in general. He also stressed that this cooperation further emphasises ExxonMobil's commitment to social participation and local initiatives such as this tournament.

"We're looking forward to developing more cooperation with ExxonMobil, especially since this cooperation is in the best

interest of our Qatari youth who are presented with the opportunity to compete and encouraged to further support the athletic stance of Qatar in the international arena," Zeinal said.
