Qatar, China sign key agreements


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, witnessed the signing of agreements and memorandums of understanding.

An MoU was signed to promote cooperation in the building of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the Maritime Silk Road between Qatar's Foreign Ministry and China's National Development and Reform Commission to link Asia and Europe. The first executive programme for educational and cultural cooperation was also signed. An MoU was signed between Qatar Central Bank and the People's Bank of China to enhance cooperation in financial services and set up a framework for establishing a special centre for clearing and settlement of the yuan in Doha. Both sides also inked an MoU between Qatar Central Bank and the China Banking Regulatory Commission to facilitate upgrade of representative offices of Qatari banks in China into full branches and an MoU in the field of sports between Qatar's Ministry of Youth and Sports and China's State General Administration of Sports.

The Emir also attended a dinner banquet hosted by Jinping at the People's Palace in honour of the Emir and his delegation. Top officials from both sides also attended.
