Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a new line for heritage abras (electric blue abras) at Atlantis the Palm in concurrence with the Public Transport Day that is marked each year on November 1. The opening of this line is to fulfil public demand nearby one of the iconic landmarks of the emirate to enjoy picturesque views of the Palm Island.

Hussain Khansaheb Director of Marine Transport said: “Atlantis Hotel is characterised by substantial numbers of visitors spanning community members and tourists. Therefore we opted to run traditional abras in this area to offer visitors exposure to gorgeous sceneries on board the abra and a chance to shoot memorable images.
“In the first stage we will deploy two electricity-powered environment-friendly blue abras each of which has a capacity to load six riders at a fare of Dh65. The trip which takes about 20 minutes will start from Al Naseemi Beach at Atlantis and pass through the Atlantis Resort the Palm (seaside) and the Splash Park.
“Operating traditional abras in this area is vital as they attract visitors from various destinations interested in boarding the first transit mode in Dubai used in linking the Creek with Deira and Bur Dubai besides boosting tourist activities in the emirate. Deploying traditional blue abras proved a hit with visitors and tourists of other landmark areas as we currently have five blue abras operating at Burj Khalifa – The Dubai Mall three at Mamzar station and seven at the Global Village” he said.
