Number feared dead in Sri Lanka landslide revised down to 38

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency)  Authorities in Sri Lanka on Sunday revised down the
number of people presumed killed in a landslide last week at a tea
plantation to 38, according to dpa.

First estimates after the disaster struck Wednesday put the number of
missing at more than 300, which was lowered hours later to around
150.

The number of confirmed dead has varied widely since.

The Disaster Management Centre now says that four bodies have been
recovered and 34 people are missing at the site, located 200
kilometres east of the capital.

As weather conditions improved Sunday, the military intensified its
search efforts by bringing in heavy equipment. Some 70 houses
belonging to the estate's labourers were buried in the mud and
debris.
