Romanians vote for president

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency)  Voters in Romania are poised to send Socialist
Prime Minister Victor Ponta into the presidency as they head to the
polls Sunday for the first round of presidential elections, dpa reported.

Ponta's main challenger is Klaus Iohannis, the mayor of the
Transylvanian city of Sibiu and leader of the centre-right
National-Liberal Party.

If neither candidate garners more than 50 per cent of the vote, then
a second round will be held on November 16.
Opinion polls suggested that none of the remaining 12 candidates
appear to have the support to upset Ponta or Iohannis.

Around 18 million people are eligible to vote.

The conservative incumbent president, Traian Basescu, has already
served two terms and is barred from running again.
