Gulf Initiative sponsors urge swift gov't makeup in Yemen

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) A Group of 10 Ambassadors in Sanaa on Saturday called on all political parties in Yemen to work together to form a new government in line with the Peace and National Partnership Agreement (PNPA).

The ambassadors, of countries sponsoring the GCC initiative that ended political turmoil, said in a press statement that Yemen needs an effective government that can provide security and better economic and social services.

"We stress the importance of having a qualified government able to show integrity, competence, impartiality and commitment to the promotion of human rights and the rule of law," according to the statement.

But, they called on Houthi Ansarullah militants to stop their continuous campaign to seize government and military facilities.

Furthermore, the ambassadors reiterated condemnation of Al-Qaeda terrorist activities, while voicing concern that ongoing infighting between Ansarullah and Al-Qaeda could lead to the escalation of the conflict in Yemen.

The 10 ambassadors represent Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Britain, the US, Russia, France, EU and China, in addition to the head of the GCC mission to Yemen.
