Qatar's ReElection for the HRC Confirms Its Growing Role Foreign Minister's Assistant


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Doha October 24 (QNA) - HE Foreign Assistant Minister for International Cooperation Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdurrahman Al-Thani said that the re-election of the State of Qatar for the third time a member of the Human Rights Council for the period 2015-2017 indicates the high level of confidence given to the State of Qatar by the international community as well as its growing role it plays in the promotion of human rights at the international level.



Qatar got the support of 142 countries among the Group of Asian States nominated for membership in the Human Rights Council.

HE Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdurrahman Al-Thani said in remark to QNA that Qatar's quest to get the membership of the Human Rights Council stems from its belief in Council's role being the main UN Agency concerned with promoting and supporting human rights.



He expressed Qatar's keenness on promoting and protecting human rights describing that to be a main pillar of Qatar's foreign policy. This is highlighted in Qatar National Vision 2030 which involved important themes touching on the key issues of human rights in the areas of education health environment labor rights and women's empowerment he added.



HE the Assistant Foreign Minister for International Cooperation Affairs stressed that Qatar will continue multilateral cooperation under the umbrella of various international mechanisms related to human rights especially the Human Rights Council and cooperation with other international and regional mechanisms concerned with the promotion and protection of human rights.



He praised the efforts made by the Qatar's permanent delegations to the United Nations in both Geneva and New York for getting the seat and for promoting the status of the State of Qatar in the field of human rights. (QNA)
