Tunisian Officer Killed in Police Militants Clash

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Tunis October 23 (QNA) - A Tunisian national guard officer who was hit in the clashes that erupted Thursday at dawn between a group of militants and the security forces in Chebbaou (Oued Ellil- Manouba) succumbed to his injuries and another was wounded in the arm a security source said.

"Negotiations are underway with the terrorists hiding in the dwelling besieged by security forces in the El Ouard neighbourhood to convince them to surrender" Tunisian Press Agency (TAP) quoted the source as saying.

Official Spokesperson for the Interior Ministry Mohamed Ali Laroui confirmed to TAP "the presence of a close connection between the ongoing security operation in Chebbaou and the arrest of the two dangerous elements in Kebili." "Investigations conducted with these two individuals captured in Kebili allowed to besiege the dwelling where terrorists are hiding" Laroui pointed out affirming that "an exchange of fire is still taking place."
