UAE- Mudslide buries Sri Lanka tea labor quarters


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The military has mobilized troops to help in the rescue operations.

Colombo Sri Lanka: A mudslide in central Sri Lanka has buried several rows of workers’ houses at a tea estate and officials are checking on the number of casualties.



An official from the Disaster Management Center S. Hapuarachchi says the mudslide wiped out seven rows of laborers’ quarters and four other homes.



It hit early Wednesday in the Meeribedda tea estate in Badulla district 218 kilometers (135 mile) southeast of the capital Colombo.



The military has mobilized troops to help in the rescue operations.
