UAE- Star studded premiere of Happy New Year

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The cast of Happy New Year got together for a star studded premiere of the film in Dubai

The much-awaited red carpet premiere of Farah Khan’s Happy New Year took place at Atlantis The Palm last Wednesday night. The belle of the ball was the gorgeous Deepika Padukone who showed off her svelte frame in a navy Gaurav Gupta gown.

While talking to City Times from the red carpet Deepika got a bit emotional. “We were getting teary it’s been a wonderful journey. We were one family. I know we have to let go but what we don’t want to let go is the experience that we had. We do not know when this time will come back. And then we start thinking of ideas like ‘Okay let’s plan Slam Part Two’ or ‘Let’s make Happy New Year Part 2.’ We know we are just saying these things to make ourselves feel better. It is not that we are not going to meet again but this journey has been very special and it is coming to an end.”

Shah Rukh walked in with wife Gauri who is also the producer of the film. SRK’s wife who can be spotted at the end of the movie kept to the Diwali theme in a Monisha Jaising Couture lehenga with a gold Bottega Veneta knot clutch.

“It’s been a tough journey” Shah Rukh Khan admitted “and it was not easy to make this film. If we weren’t friendly I think it would have taken even longer. To trust each other is the beginning of any kind of endeavor when we do creative projects together. So now that is ending we all know this film does not belong to us anymore it belongs to the audience. So letting go of something that got us so close is emotional and painful.”

Malaika Arora Khan who makes a special appearance in the film was her usual sultry self in a maroon Jatin Varma gown slit to the thigh.

Dino Morea and Sarah Jane Dias were the surprise turnouts on the red carpet but we learnt later that they both have small parts in the movie.

When a movie of the scale of Happy New Year releases there is bound to be a lot of expectations. And for the crowd who had gathered at the special screening at Atlantis on Wednesday night it was no different. But with a running time of over three hours it would have to be a very special movie to hold everyone’s attention and unfortunately for SRK and his team HNY is not that. At least Deepika Padukone seems to have had an inkling that the movie is not going to be critically acclaimed as she told us ahead of the screening “Awards I do not know but I think what is important is love and appreciation from the audience.”

The best part of the film was at the credits at the end where SRK’s youngest son Abram is shown playing with his parents. As SRK told us: “Abram is beautiful. I like children and to me the greatest pleasure is that I get to spend time with a baby.”
