Al Wasl seek UAEFA assistance in Hugo Viana case

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The former Portugal national squad veteran and star midfielder and back bone of the Al Ahli campaign so far this season was set join Al Wasl.

Dubai: Al Wasl Club have sent a request to the UAE Football Association (UAEFA) to reconsider the controlling body’s decision not to accept Hugo Viana’s transfer application to the Cheetahs from Al Ahli Club it was announced during a Press conference at Al Wasl Club on Wednesday.

The former Portugal national squad veteran and star midfielder and the back bone of the Al Ahli campaign so far this season was set join Al Wasl following the October 2-3 midnight transfer deadline. However the application filed before the deadline was not accepted by the UAEFA according to club officials on Wednesday.

“We had gone through a long process in fact a fortnight before to get the papers to the UAEFA and the transfer forms were filed well before the midnight deadline” said Colonel Mohammed Al Amri of the Al Wasl Club board.

“We have now filed a special request to the UAEFA to allow room for Hugo to be listed officially in our team. The delay and official paperwork has slowed down the process but this is understandable” he added.

“The world body Fifa has already said it was an internal matter of the UAEFA when technical issues were raised at its headquarters” said Al Amri “We will wait for the UAEFA to consider our request and after the stipulated time we are planning on approaching the players status committee as the club has not made any mistake regarding the transfer norms set by the UAEFA.” He added: “The committee will be the next authority within the framework which we must approach if the answer initially is negative from the association. However I see a solution within everyone’s framework to solve the issue.”

“Then we have an issue with the transfer of another player between us and Bani Yas which is unsolved. In fact there are three more such transfer case issues pending with the national body between other clubs as well” he said.

“What we are looking forward to is to reach an understanding with the national body at the earliest date so that the player the clubs concerned and the fans are not deprived of the best of available talent” he continued.
