(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Julphar is under a water rationalising programme where water is pumped to the area for 36 hours straight and cut for 12 hours so as to supply water to other areas.
A number of important projects will be launched in Ras Al Khaimah to address the problem of water shortage in the emirate. The Federal Electricity and Water Authority (Fewa) has received many reports and complaints about shortage of water in Julphar and its surrounding areas.
Mohammed Khalil Al Shamsi director of corporate communication Fewa said the authority supplies 36 million gallons of water to RAK everyday. “This includes 1.5 million gallons of water provided on a daily basis to Julphar and nearby areas.”
He underscored that this volume is “sufficient” for the thousands of people living there. “The problem is in just seven houses which suffered temporary cut in water supply due to an unexpected failure in a water desalination station there — a glitch that may take some time to fix.”

Fewa will start building a water pumping station at Wadi Ghalila by the end of this year Al Shamsi said. “Fewa is also planning to build three water tanks with a storage capacity of 2 million gallons.”
Building a major water transmission line from Al Nakheel area to Julphar using pipes with a diameter of 400mm is also in the pipeline he added. “The authority is also set to build another water desalination and pumping station with a storage capacity of 15 million gallons at Ghalila.”
Al Shamsi said they will build two water tanks with a capacity of 10 million gallons each in the same area.
