Saudi- Shields felt 'abused' by mother
(MENAFN- Arab News) LOS ANGELES: Brooke Shields is releasing a memoir detailing how she felt 'abandoned' by her mother due to her alcoholism.
The 49-year-old has enjoyed a successful career with lucrative modelling campaigns and starring roles in movies like The Blue Lagoon. However in spite of her glossy image her childhood was burdened by her mother Teri Shields' alleged alcohol addiction.
'I felt abandoned by her' Brooke wrote in her upcoming memoir There Was A Little Girl an excerpt of which was published on website Closer Weekly. 'My unhappiness was rooted in my mother's inability to stop drinking.'
Teri passed away in 2012 at the age of 79 reportedly due to an illness related to dementia.
In her book Brooke details having her mother as her manager for child modelling jobs. She felt this held her back from youthful adventures.
'While other kids were involved in playdates I was shooting for various cataloges' the star lamented.
The star felt her mother's alcohol habit affected her negatively and amounted to 'abuse'.
