Readout of the Secretary-Generals meeting with H.E. Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta President of Kenya


(MENAFNEditorial) NEW YORK October 30 2014/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The Secretary-General and World Bank President Jim Yong Kim met with President Uhuru Kenyatta and members of his cabinet and discussed peace security and development issues affecting the country and the wider Horn of Africa.

The Secretary-General commended Kenya's contributions to international efforts to promote peace and security in Africa particularly in Somalia and South Sudan. He highlighted the peace security and development issues discussed throughout his tour of the Horn of Africa and urged Kenya's continued engagement and leadership on those issues.

The Secretary-General noted his earlier visit to the Dadaab camp and thanked Kenya for providing safe haven to refugees. He encouraged Kenya's continued full support to the refugees including medical services and other humanitarian assistance as well as their safe and voluntary return.

The Secretary-General thanked Kenya for hosting the United Nations in Nairobi and reiterated his commitment to further collaborate on issues of mutual concern including counter-terrorism.
