Draw media guideline to achieve objective outlook: Sheikh Salman


(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY Oct 27 (KUNA): It is time for Arab countries to draw up a current media guideline to achieve a free and objective outlook to media Kuwaiti Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah stressed on Monday. Speaking exclusively to 'Asharq Alwsat' newspaper Sheikh Salman added that the media industry in the Arab world is facing many challenges due to regional alliances and favoritism that hinder the establishment of unified media address.

He added that Arab media should also have the ability to keep up with its peers in the West that have free and current outlook to many political social economic artistic and many other events.

Moreover the Minister pointed out that Kuwaiti media believes in delivering a message of rejecting and combating terrorism and calls for open dialogue to reach solutions. Media in the rest of the GCC countries is following suit and has the same objectives of spreading rational and humanitarian discourse away from resorting to violence. 'The intricate reality of the region demands from not only Kuwaiti media but also Arab ones to have an honest and patriotic stance that takes into account the Arab countries' interest' he added.

Hence it is of outmost important that media outlets should be transparent just and believes in promoting constructive discourse to achieve peace among nations. For that reason Sheikh Salman explained that Kuwaiti media has always strived to instil Arab and Islamic heritage and values; this could be seen through many literary and intellectual publications that has started with the first issue of 'Al-Arabi Magazine' in 1958.

The Minister pointed out that since Kuwait rejects and condemns terrorism in all of its forms the country's media adopts the same address and tries to call for peaceful dialogue through its various media platforms as well as by holding many intellectual and cultural conferences locally and internationally.
