Flights to US, China and Vietnam part of Oman Air's expansion plans

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman Air has ambitious expansion plans and is looking to fly to China Vietnam eastern Europe and the US in the next decade. In the immediate future the airline is planning to start services from Dubai to Khasab to provide improved connection to Musandam.

Abdulrahman al Busaidy COO Oman Air said that the airline has a ten-year plan under which major expansion of fleet and destinations are envisaged. 'By 2015 we will increase our fleet by 13 aircraft. And under the ten-year plan the fleet will go up from 30 to 70.' He said that with the added capacity the airline is looking to connect to China Vietnam eastern Europe and preferably New York.

'We are geared for expansion to bring tourists.' He added that from January 1 2015 Oman Air will have daily flights to all its European destinations except Paris. 'The new philosophy is to have everyday flights to Europe and to some points twice a day – like Frankfurt.'

The airline is keen to double daily flights to Frankfurt but there are issues of available time slots Busaidy said. On the Khasab-Dubai connectivity Busaidy said that Musandam is called Norway of Middle East but access to it is difficult. 'We don't have enough flights to Khasab. By next year we hope to put Embraer aircraft on duty on the Dubai-Khasab route.'
