Oman discusses investment linkages, trade with India


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman sees India as a very close partner and the time has arrived for new innovative ideas to generate more business in the future H E Dr Ali bin Masoud bin Ali al Sunaidy Minister of Commerce and Industry has said.

H E Dr Sunaidy was addressing the media at the seventh India-Oman Joint Commission meeting which was held in New Delhi on Wednesday. During the meeting the two sides discussed economic and commercial matters of mutual interest and discussed ways to increase bilateral trade and investment linkages between the two countries.

H E Dr Sunaidy said 'We had a very good discussion today....we have had very constructive two days which will also go on in the next two days in Mumbai. Our trade is expanding...our exports and imports with India are growing. So there has been an increase of over 55 per cent trade between 2012 and 2013. We hope that this grows further.'

Nirmala Sitharaman Indian Minister of State (independent charge) in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said 'There is a scope for further interaction and greater engagement with Oman. Today's meeting has only reinforced the possibilities which exist immensely. This has been a warm and meaningful interaction. We hope to follow it up by a delegation which will be going to Oman in December.'

She added 'There are also negotiations with the Gulf Cooperation Council. We hope to work a lot more closely with Oman on newer and more intense economic activity...a lot of new areas of discussion have come out.'

Both ministers witnessed the signing of MoU on Standards and Metrology between the Bureau of Indian Standards and Oman's Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The two ministers also welcomed the signing of the Agreement on Legal and Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters.
