Oman signs legal assistance agreement with India


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman and India on Wednesday signed a legal and judicial cooperation agreement that provides for substantial engagement in pursuing and eliminating transnational crimes and terrorism in its different forms.

H E Dr Ali bin Masoud bin Ali al Sunaidy Minister of Commerce and Industry signed the agreement with Rajnath Singh India's Union Minister of Home Affairs in New Delhi.

The agreement includes provisions on transfer of documents records and objects search and seizure besides availability of persons to give evidence and assist in investigation. The cooperation is expected to be a deterrent to those who directly or indirectly benefit from proceeds of crime. It provides for exchange of judicial reports related to tax fees and customs evasion crimes as well as international transfer of capital or payments.

Besides this pact Singh has offered India's expertise in disaster management. He told the Omani delegation that India which regularly experiences floods heavy rains and cyclones has been able to minimise loss of lives with better forecasting methodology and adept handling of the ground situation.
