Halloween Haunts Come To Key West Florida

Summary: What could be spookier than spending Halloween in a haunted Civil War era fort in Key West Florida?

October 7 2014 Key West FL-Fantasy Fest isn’t the only reason thousands of people flock to Key West Florida every year for an island vacation during the end of October. They also come to celebrate Halloween in one of the most haunted parts of the United States. Along with the numerous ghost tours that happen throughout the year Halloween also brings out the annual “Haunting of Fort Taylor.” This year’s event scheduled to run weekends starting Friday October 17th through Halloween night includes a new attraction to add to the already legendary thrills and chills people have come to expect.

“It is certainly one of the best attended annual events that are held in Key West” said Frank Everhart volunteer chairperson of the Haunting of Fort Taylor. “Not only do we get plenty of tourists every year it is also a large community event as well. Some of the locals feel turned off by all of the Fantasy Fest events going on and they look forward to having something to do with their families.”

Looking to include the families is something that they have always done with a special kid’s day for the younger and more squeamish children of the island. This year they have added an open air Theater of Chills that will be showing classic black and white monster movies. This way even if there are children (or their parents) that are too scared to tour the fort they can still come out and take part in the fun.

Halloween is a major holiday for many of the Key West restaurants thanks to the influx of tourists for Fantasy Fest but they make sure that their staff gets a chance to enjoy the annual haunting event. However after going once some cannot be convinced to go back a second time. “We have had several staff people go over as a group who when they came back to work the next day swore that they’d never go back inside the fort ever” said Norman Vogel owner of the Roof Top Café. “Many of them claim that they could feel something in there with them.” Maybe this Halloween treat isn’t just a trick after all.
