Treatment Resources Has Prescription Drug Abuse Info Available

Las Vegas Nev. – (October 28 2014) – Across the country people are increasingly becoming addicted to prescription medications. These medications may be legal but their abuse potential is still great and has led to people to become dependent on drugs that can do real harm to them. These medications fall into three broad categories and include opioids stimulants and CNS depressants. Each medication has its special dangers and method of treatment underlining the need for obtaining special support when you find yourself addicted to a prescription drug.

Opioids

Opioids include a broad range of drugs including morphine hydrocodone codeine and Fentanyl. Many of these prescription drugs are powerful narcotics that have chemical properties similar to heroin. Many become addicted to these drugs during the course of receiving legitimate treatment for pain conditions leading to a habit that can spin out of control.

Habitual use of opioids can quickly lead to an overdose that can become deadly. In fact in 2012 over 16000 people died in the United States from a prescription opioid overdose underlining just how deadly these drugs can be. Medically monitored detox in a certified facility equipped for fighting addiction is key to getting off these drugs as withdrawal from opioids can often lead to seizures coma and even death.

Stimulants

Prescription stimulants can include Ritalin Adderall and many other commonly prescribed drugs for attention deficient disorder narcolepsy or problems with cognition. However abuse of these drugs is also rampant and can lead to severe addiction potential. Abuse of stimulants can often create mania nausea loss of appetite and long-term neurological damage.

Many find that once an addiction develops they have trouble functioning in day-to-day life without these drugs. Unfortunately stimulant usage often leads to tolerance requiring users to take more and more of these drug to obtain the results they desire.

CNS Depressants

CNS depressants encompass a broad range of drugs and can also include alcohol. However prescription drugs such as b benzodiazepine barbiturates and non- benzodiazepine sleep aids also fall into this category. Many start taking these drugs to deal with insomnia anxiety and other mental conditions but often find themselves facing a debilitating addiction over time.

Unfortunately these drugs are famous for rapidly causing tolerance in a user leading them to be less effective and more damaging over time. People using benzos and non-benzodiazepine drugs such as Ambien Nembutal Valium or Klonopin can find that the drugs start causing the same symptoms they initially took the drug for such as anxiety and severe insomnia. In addition the drugs can cause seizures muscle tremors slurred speech impair memory and even lead to overdose in the case of barbiturates. Given the difficult withdrawal featured with all of these drugs medical supervision is highly recommended to experience a successful treatment and long-term abstinence.
