Qatar- Qassim shines in badminton meet

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Promising 10-year-old player Ahamed Qassim was the star performer of the tournament held by the Qatar Badminton Association at Abu Obaida Independent School on October 22 and 23.

Qassim performed brilliantly in the under-19 category and emerged victorious. He outclassed Ali Adel Al Saadi 21-10, 21-19 to claim the under-19 crown. He also won the under-13 category.

Qatari player Abdul Aziz Badar Al-Nahdi, 14, won the under-15 category. He played against the young Qassim who played brilliantly in other two categories. Abdul clinched the game from Qassim 21-9, 21-14. Qassim played well and drew a lot of applause from the crowd for his abilities.

This victory is a huge achievement for the players and for Qatar national badminton team coach Manoj Sahibjan.

These young players were under the training of Sahibjan from September 2012 onwards. The coach believes that players can shine in the international tournaments and bring honour to both country and the team if they all perform and train in the same manner.

The prizes for the winners and the runners€up were given by Hamad Al Malki, an official representing the QBA.
