(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The EU Monday condemned a reported decision by Israel to advance with settlement expansion in occupied East Jerusalem and in the rest of the West Bank.
Maja Kocijancic, spokesperson for EU High Representative Catherine Ashton, said Brussels has asked Israel for clarifications and details about the matter.
"If such decision will be confirmed it will call once again into serious question Israel's commitment to a negotiated solution with the Palestinians," she said in a statement.
"If confirmed we could not but condemn such an ill-judged and ill-timed decision exactly as we condemned recently the one concerning Givat-Hamatos and we call for the urgent reversal of this decision," said the spokesperson.
"We stress that the future development of relations between the EU and Israel will depend on the latter's engagement towards a lasting peace based on a two-state solution," added the statement.
