US commends Lebanese armed forces in Tripoli, Akkar

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The US Monday commended the "bravery of the personnel of the Lebanese armed forces who are working to keep Tripoli and Akkar safe" from terrorists that tried to divide the Lebanese people.

"We join with Lebanon as it mourns the loss of the soldiers and officers who died defending Lebanon from terrorist groups," said State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki to reporters. "We're encouraged by the strong stand of the prime minister in this regard and that of other leaders." Psaki asserted, "the army and the state security institutions alone have the legitimate role of defending Lebanon, under the direction of the government." The US reiterated its confidence in Lebanon's abilities and continued US support to the Lebanese government.
