(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Jordan's Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh has condemned the Israeli government's approval of building 1,060 extra settlements in the occupied Eastern Jerusalem settlements of Ramat Shlomo and Har Homa.
The move represents a clear and utter breach of Israel's commitments as a force built on occupation according to international and humanitarian law, particularly in relation to the fourth Geneva Convention, said a ministry statement.
It also represents a "huge slap in the face of efforts taken to restart Palestinian-Israeli negotiations aimed at the incarnation of a two-state solution based on well-known international references and the Arab Peace Initiative," it added.
Furthermore, the ministry added that Jordan is maintaining contacts with impacting sides on the international level to pressurize and warn Israel over its continued breaches and break-ins into the Temple Mount, known to Muslims as Al-Haram Al-Sharif.
The sides included the US Secretary of State, the UN Secretary General, permanent Security Council member nations and the EU, according to the foreign minister.
Judeh reserved his nation's right to diplomatic and legal options in stopping these breaches amid Jordan's historic guardianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites.
