(MENAFNEditorial) 10/27/2014The International Institute for Aging and Wellness (IIAW) will hold its first ever S.A.F.E Divas Academy on Saturday November 22 2014 from 10am – 3pm. The event which will take place at the Creative Center 900 Sixteenth St. Greensboro NC will showcase female assault safety awareness and prevention techniques for women and girls ages 13 and older.
“S.A.F.E Divas are Smart Aware Fierce and Empowered” says Gerry Shoffner IIAW’s board president. “We want mothers daughters sisters and friends to come out and take control of their own personal safety because every diva has the right to be safe.”
The program will feature a day of interactive fun and reflective discussions designed to empower women and girls through assault education awareness and violence prevention. Attendees will learn a variety of lifestyle safety strategies for the environments in which they live learn work and play. Topics include situational awareness assertiveness and avoidance; risk factors for assault; crimes using social media; understanding sexual consent; and healthy relationships and boundary setting. The program will also teach essential road safety skills every woman must know.
Sondra Wright founder and executive director of IIAW notes “With the prevalence of violent crimes against women we feel an urgent responsibility to teach women to be aware safe smart and prepared so they can evaluate situations with clarity and intelligence.” Wright certified in female safety and self-defense believes awareness to be the most important element in women’s safety “It’s always to a woman’s advantage to be aware of and avoid certain situations than to try and fight her way out of them.”
International Institute for Aging and Wellness is a nonprofit organization that works to advance the global health safety and wellbeing of women girls and older adults. This event not only benefits women and girls by providing important safety education that reduces the risk of victimization but IIAW will collect canned foods as admission to help combat senior hunger during the holidays. “The canned goods will be donated to Food Assistance Inc. a grocery distribution service that provides food friendship and hope to low income and disabled seniors in Guilford County” said Shoffner.
