Oman, Iran sign 6 MoUs to boost trade ties

(MENAFN) The Oman Chamber of Commerce announced it has signed six memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with Iranian trade organizations, in order to boost commercial ties between the two countries in areas such as livestock, poultry, agriculture and meat products, Times of Oman reported.

The MOUs are also designed to help in the cooperation in holding joint exhibitions, trade activities, scientific exchanges and tourism, as well as the export of fruits and foodstuffs, while two other agreements were signed for the supply of protein products and developing the technology for creating a poultry chain, as well as for the exchange of the know-how in cultivating flowers and plants, and exporting them.

"Our expectations from these MOUs are not limited to the supply of technological services and foodstuff exports. Rather we expect to see joint investments by the private sectors of both countries," Oman's Chamber of Commerce said in a statement.

Oman said that these MoUs come as the result of the two countries enjoying long-standing relations, as well as the Sultanate's desire of increasing trade with the countries in the region including Iran, which resulted in Oman making efforts to remove the obstacles in the way of Iranian investors.

Meanwhile, the value of Oman's imports from Iran stood at USD560.16 in 2013, registering a surge by 172.2 million percent compared to 2012 when the value of imports from Iran to Oman reached USD205.76 million.
