Abu Dubai's Hosn Gas to invest USD10b on Shah gas project

(MENAFN) Abu Dhabi Gas Development Company Limited (Al Hosn Gas), which is developing Shah gas field, announced it is expecting to have a capacity to supply half a billion standard cubic feet per day of network gas upon the completing of the development of its field, Gulf News reported.

The gas field, which is located about 210 kilometers south-west of Abu Dhabi, is targeted for full production in late 2014, with expectation that it will have a significant contribution to the energy needs of Abu Dhabi and the UAE for over 30 years.

The company said that although this gas field was discovered in the mid-1960s, several obstacles led to it being not developed till now which included its remoteness as well as the complexity of gas extraction, however the current technological advanced is making the processing of such sour gas possible.

"The Shah gas field will yield about half a billion cubic feet per day of network gas and produce vast amounts of highly valuable hydrocarbon by-products for domestic use and export," the company said.

The company also said that the development of the field, which involved an international team of expert engineers, contractors and construction workers, is expected to have the cost of USD10 billion, making the Shah gas field project to be the biggest sour gas project of its kind to be ever undertaken.
