Qatar- Ashghal awards QR1.08bn healthcare projects


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) yesterday awarded contracts for healthcare projects, including expansion of Hamad General Hospital's Emergency Department, four new health centres, and the expansion of Al Khor Hospital with an additional 500 beds.

The QR1.08bn consulting and construction contracts - part of Qatar's efforts to enhance medical facilitates - also include construction of a state-of-the-art Simulation Centre at Hamad Medical City to provide virtual surgical training to fresh medical graduates.

The new healthcare centres will be in Muaither, Al Wajbah, Al Waab and Al Jamiaa.

The contracts were inked in a ceremony in the presence of the Minister of Health and Secretary-General, Supreme Council of Health (SCH) H E Abdullah bin Khalid Al Qahtani and Nasser bin Ali Al Mawlawi, President, Ashghal.

The deals include a contract to design and supervise construction of an annex to Al Khor Hospital with a capacity of 500 beds, a design contract for an annex to the emergency section at Hamad General Hospital, and a design and construction supervision contract of National Health Laboratories in Mesaimeer.

The QR208m worth Simulation Centre will provide latest technology in audio and video systems in the medical field and include simulation laboratories to train medical graduates in many fields. Construction will start in Q4 of 2014 and will be completed in Q1, 2016.

The Al Waab and Al Jamiaa centres will be designed according to type B that comprises two basements, a ground floor and one upper floor.

The centres will include blood test, women's health, specialised, dental, and chronic diseases clinics, X-rays, pharmacy, labs, emergency, pre-marriage tests, and educational services.

The contract was awarded to United Construction Company, involving over QR253m. Construction will start in Q4, 2014, and will be completed in Q3, 2016.

The health centres in Muaither and Al Wajba will be type C and include wellness facilities such as health club, massage rooms, swimming pool and sauna and Jacuzzi rooms, and facilities generally available in main sections in most primary healthcare centres.

Design and construction supervision contract for five healthcare centres in Al Mashaf, Ain Khaled (Umm Al Senim), Al Wakra, Al Khor, and Al Shamal were also inked whose consulting services deals were signed earlier this year.

In 2013, Ashghal signed seven contracts in the healthcare sector worth about QR1.19bn.

They included construction of an additional surgery rooms building in Hamad General Hospital and five healthcare centres in Al Nuaim, Al Muntazah, Al Karaana, Leghwairiya, Al Roda in addition to Umm Salal health and wellness centre.
