Israeli Army Arrests Dozen in West Bank, Jerusalem

(MENAFN- QNA) Israeli army forces Sunday arrested 10 Palestinians in night and predawn incursions across the West Bank, most in the district of Hebron, while arrested a woman and an elderly present at al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem, Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) reported .

In Jerusalem, Israeli police arrested a woman who attempted to enter Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the city. The woman, who was identified as Samiha Jodah, was led to a nearby police station.

Meanwhile, a group of settlers broke into Al-Aqsa in a provocative tour, where they assaulted Palestinian women and verbally abused them. Islamic Waqf guards were then able to fend off the settlers and force them out the Mosque.

The offensive comes amid growing tension in the holy city which has been on the rise for the past few months, with an unprecedented spike in the last two weeks.

An already violent round of confrontations between Israeli police and Palestinian unarmed activists, unceasing since last July, has recently developed into a daily scene in the Old City.

In Hebron, army forces stormed the town of Beit Ummar, north of the city and conducted large-scale searches and raided several homes. The Israeli army arrested six local residents in the town including two brothers.

Israeli forces broke into the nearby town of Beit Awwa, southwest of Hebron, and arrested Mohannad Abu-al-Ghalazi, 24, and BAsem Masalmeh, 35. They were led to an unknown destination.
