Japan to Send Mission to N. Korea from over Abduction Probe

(MENAFN- QNA) A Japanese government delegation is set to make a four-day visit to North Korea from Monday to assess Pyongyang's investigation into the fates of Japanese nationals it abducted decades ago.

In talks with North Korea's special investigation committee on Tuesday and Wednesday in Pyongyang, the delegation will try to obtain information on 12 unaccounted Japanese abductees recognized by Tokyo, saying the abduction issue is "the highest priority" for the government of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

But it is not known whether North Korea will provide information on the abductees, according to Japan's (Kyodo) News Agency.

Pyongyang has maintained eight have died and four others never entered the country.
