Sinai blasts spark int'l condemnation


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Several countries have voiced open condemnation against recent bomb explosions that hit Egypt's North Sinai, which led to the killing and wounding of scores of Egyptian army troops.

Saudi Arabia on Saturday emphatically denounced Friday's blasts in Sinai on Friday as "terrorist acts".

A Saudi official source was quoted by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) as reiterating Saudi Arabia's support to Egypt's war on terrorism out of its firm position against all manifestations of terrorism regardless of motives.

Qatar said the two bombings that hit Egypt's Sinai last night are openly condemnable.

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the blasts run counter to all human principles and values, reaffirming Qatar's condemnation of all forms of violence.

In its statement, the Qatari ministry prayed for the souls of the victims and wished the wounded quick recovery.

In Amman, Jordanian Minister of State for Information Affairs and Spokesman for the Government Mohammad Al-Momani said his country rejects all manifestations of violence and terrorism that target Egypt.

He reiterated his country's support to Egypt's fight against terrorists, while urging the international community to stand united against extremism and terrorism.

Morocco flatly condemned the terrorist attack perpetrated on Friday in northern Sinai in Egypt and which claimed the lives of many innocent victims.

The Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: "Morocco expresses strong condemnation of this heinous act which contradicts the tolerant teachings of Islam and human and moral values." It expressed its solidarity with the Arab Republic of Egypt and reaffirmed denunciation of terrorism whatever its causes and motives may be.

The Kingdom of Bahrain strongly condemned and denounced the "treacherous and cowardly" terrorist acts which took place Friday in Sinai, Egypt.

In a statement issued by the Foreign Affairs Ministry today, the Kingdom affirmed its unwavering support to the Arab Republic of Egypt, and backing of all the measures to be taken to combat terrorism and eradicate terrorist acts.

It expressed its profound condolences to the Egyptian leadership, people and families of the victims, wishing the wounded speedy recovery.

A car bomb on Friday killed at least 26 Egyptian soldiers at a checkpoint in Sinai.

The attack took place near El Arish, the main town in the north of the restive peninsula. Three more died in a shooting in the town itself. The bomb blast is one of the deadliest attacks in Sinai for months. At least 28 more people were injured.

The army has been fighting a campaign against Sinai-based militants, who have carried out a string of attacks there.
