Two soldiers killed in clashes with gunmen - Lebanese Army


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Two soldiers were killed and several others injured in clashes with gunmen in Akkar district north of Lebanon, said a statement by the Lebanese Army Saturday.

The Lebanese Army clashed with the gunmen who tried to kidnap five soldiers in Akkar after blocking the main road, the statement added, noting that some gunmen were also injured.

In a related development, military units deployed to Tripoli in northern Lebanon are launching raids on sites of militants in the city, the statement pointed out.

Some weapons and ammunitions of militants were seized, the statement said, adding that the army found many detonators, which were defused, inside a home of an Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant's (ISIL) leader.

The army said the pursuit of "terrorist gunmen" in Tripoli is continuing and will not be pulled back until after the terrorists are eliminated, the statement added.

Eight Lebanese soldiers and several civilians were injured in the Tripoli clashes which are continuing on since yesterday.
