(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) At least six personnel from the Lebanese Army were killed in clashes with gunmen in Tripoli and surrounding areas in northern Lebanon on Saturday, said a statement by the Lebanese Army.
Some units from Lebanese Army tightened their control over areas in Tripoli and Akkar, the statement added, noting that at least 20 militants have been arrested by the army.
In a related development, the army units deployed to Tripoli in northern Lebanon are launching raids on sites of militants in the city, said the army earlier in another statement.
The army said the pursuit of "terrorist gunmen" in Tripoli is continuing and will not be pulled back until after the terrorists are eliminated.
The Lebanese army has been clashing violently with militants in Tripoli since the last 24 hours.
