Dubai: A Saudi businessman faced trial for allegedly snatching a bond which proved he owed Dh200000 to a foreman and tearing it.

The 57-year-old identified as U.A. is accused in the Court of First Instance of unlawfully taking the bond by force and snatching it from the foreman’s hand just when the latter took it out of his wallet.

He also allegedly assaulted the complainant during their altercation with his fist and car keys and verbally abused him.

The bond which was destroyed bore the defendant’s signature on his acknowledgement that he owed the complainant Dh200000.

The Egyptian foreman 47 said he met the accused at around 2.30pm on April 25 at a restaurant in Al Muraqqabat to work out a settlement whereby he would get back his money and hand over the bond to U.A. to clear him of the debt.

“I had handed him Dh200000 in cash after he tricked me about a bogus investment project. As we spoke about the debt I was surprised when he snatched the receipt from my hand and tore it under the table.”

U.A. also punched him on his forehead and pressed on his neck as he held keys which left him with scratches and bruises.

An Egyptian worker 32 testified in the prosecution investigation that he was present when U.A. assaulted the complainant. “He punched him when he tried to take his receipt back from U.A. as the latter was tearing it.”

The worker also confirmed that U.A. insulted the complainant by using bad words.
