Abu Dhabi: The British Embassy in Abu Dhabi held a ‘pink’ High Tea to raise awareness of and funds for breast cancer in the UAE on Wednesday.

The event hosted by Kasia Parham wife of Philip Parham Ambassador to the UAE took place in the garden of the ambassador’s residence. More than 100 guests attended the event including Dr Maitha Salem Al Shamsi Minister of State in the Federal Government of the UAE and Chairwoman of the Marriage Fund and Eng. Fatima Obaid Al Jaber Chairperson of Abu Dhabi Businesswomen Council who both spoke during the event.
Karen Purdie a Breast Cancer survivor and patient coordinator at Breast Cancer Arabia spoke about her experience with Breast Cancer and held a Q&A session with participants.
Speaking during the event Mrs Kasia Parham said: “I am extremely grateful that so many of you could join us here today. This is a very special day for us. We can never stress enough the importance of educating people about breast cancer. It is fantastic that we have a full month dedicated to breast cancer awareness and I hope many of you have benefited from it but efforts must not stop at the end of October.”
The event forms just one part of a strong partnership between the UK and UAE across the healthcare sector. Both countries have collaborated on several major healthcare projects including the first private hospital dedicated to women and ‘mother and child’ care in Abu Dhabi set-up by NMC Healthcare in joint partnership with Oxford Fertility Unit and the opening of the King’s College Hospital Clinics in Abu Dhabi with a verity of specialty areas such as Women’s/Children’s Health and Nutrition.
