Girven rules Riyadh Wheelers 25 miles TT event
(MENAFN- Arab News) Before the start no one would have predicted the result of the first 25 miles Time Trial of the Riyadh Wheelers season as punctures and accidents conspired to dash the hopes of several favorites.
Thierry Mathy Kris Ahlin Martin Ball and Steve Jenkins were all forced to a halt with only Ball able to continue and post an impressive time in the circumstances.
Despite this mayhem a very respectable podium emerged with all recording superb sub-hour rides in what is known as the blue riband of time trialing.
Brett Girven took the honors showing the form that was predicted some time ago ahead of an emerging talent against the clock Geron Guanlao. Guanlao better known as a top road rider put his improvement down to a better machine and a summer of hard triathlons.
In third one of the most consistent riders against the clock Jiri Kuba admitted he was not at his best but was pleased to beat the hour again. The remaining 60 starters were spread over the next 40 minutes which is testament to the wide range of abilities the RW are pleased to welcome into their club.
Cat B was taken by Maria Araujo with a fine 20mph+ ride well ahead of her nearest challengers. Other rides of note came from David Pottinger Stuart Elliott Dave Wright Andy Wilson Arnel Maniago and Tim Watts who all recorded personal bests and look to have a great season ahead. Carrefour Tala Mall supplied the wonderful refreshments and rounded off what was very successful day for some.
