S. Koreans' overseas investment doubles in 5 years


(MENAFN) Newly released data showed that South Koreans' overseas investment almost doubled in the last five years, seeking higher returns in overseas markets, QNA reported.

Investors' direct overseas investment reached USD5.72 billion this year, a sharp increase from USD3.08 billion registered in 2009, data by the Korea Securities Depositary Corporation showed.

The comparable figures were USD2.96 billion in 2012 and USD5.63 billion in 2013, the data showed. Markets of the US and Japan had attracted most of the investments on monetary easing.

South Koreans have invested the largest amount into US markets so far this year at USD3.79 billion, followed by USD1.47 billion in Asian and USD455 million in African and European.
