Sharjah's environment sector to grow 15 percent by 2016

(MENAFN) According to a study by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), Sharjah's environment sector, which reached USD212.31 million this year, is expected to grow by 15 percent to reach almost USD272.20 million by 2016, due to a group of groundbreaking eco-tourism projects currently under way, Khaleej Times reported.

The emirate's environment sector is one of the four key sectors recognized by Sharjah as being major areas of potential growth, with the other three sectors being transport and logistics, travel and tourism, and healthcare.

"The Sharjah government is keen to expand further in this field, through attracting foreign direct investment into solar energy generation plants and water desalination projects," CEO of Shurooq was quoted saying.
