Japan logs trade deficit of USD8.95b in September

(MENAFN) Government data showed that Japan has logged good trade deficit of USD8.95 billion in September, marking the 27th consecutive month in the red, Xinhua reported.

According to Japan's finance ministry, exports in the reporting period jumped 6.9 percent from a year ago to USD59.6 billion, while imports rose 6.2 percent to USD68.6 billion.

That figures led to a deficit of USD8.95 billion, up 1.6 percent compared to the same period a year earlier. The figures demonstrate the mixed impact of a weaker currency on the nation's trade balance.

Meanwhile, the country also pushed up import prices. Japan depends on imports for around 90 percent of its energy needs and about 60 percent of its food supplies.
