Iran has always backed Iraqi people, army against terrorism - Rohani

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Iranian President Hassan Rohani said Tuesday Iran has been supporting the Iraqi people and army in their fight against terrorist groups.

Iran has always supported the Iraqi people and army "in fighting the terrorist groups, and will keep supporting them until the end, and will spare no effort in the help of the Iraqi government," official IRNA news agency quoted Rohani as saying during a meeting with visiting Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi.

Iran believes the Iraqi military forces and the will of people should bear the burden in the fight against terrorist organizations, he said.

Rohani said Syria has became a haven for terrorists "so the countries of the region should unite to confront terrorism." This is Al-Abadi's first visit abroad since assuming his post, a move described by Rohani as a milestone in relations between the two countries.

Rohani hoped trade exchange between Iran and Iraq would increase to USD 30 billion by 2015.

Al-Abadi said terrorism was threatening the entire region. "We are confident that Iran will stand by Iraq until the elimination of this dangerous epidemic." He said Iraq was keen on boosting economic, trade and industrial relations with Iran.
