N. Korea releases American held since May

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) An American who was arrested in North Korea in May, after leaving a bible at his hotel, has been released and is on his way home, the White House confirmed on Tuesday.

A US government plane picked up Jeffrey Fowle before flying to Guam.

"We certainly welcome the decision," White House press secretary Josh Earnest said during a briefing.

Earnest called on North Korea to also "immediately" release two other Americans imprisoned in North Korea, Matthew Miller and Kenneth Bae.

The US Department of Defense had arranged the transportation of Fowle out of North Korea at the request of the North Korean government, Earnest said.
